The sleeping litany. Or living in the city

No cars, no motorbikes, no trucks,

no screaming nor laughing child down in the street below.

No arguing couple nor roaring friends,

no cooing pigeons outside our window.

No banging doors, no noisy works,

no music, no loud talks at our neighbours’ either!

Please, please! World, be silent, while my love’s eyelids close

and his mind slows down, he needs the rest – as I do, his mother.


Damn the ones I forgot! The barking dog; the passing helicopter!

He’ll fall asleep later…
